General Hospital’s Lucky Actor on if He’ll Return After Leaving

Jonathan Jackson, who plays Lucky Spencer, has recently discussed the possibility of returning to the long-running soap opera General Hospital in the future. He departed from the show because he was unable to strike a work-life balance.

His frequent travels from his home in Tennessee to his workplace in California turned out to be challenging. However, in a recent interview, he hadn’t entirely ruled out the possibility of not portraying Lucky again. Here’s what he said.

Jonathan Jackson explains if he’ll ever return to General Hospital

In an interview with TV Insider, Jonathan Jackson first explained how stepping back into the role at 28, after originally playing it at 17, was “exciting” and “jarring.” However, he believes that those previous visits eventually made his latest return comparatively easier.

He said, “Back then, it took me a good week to get back into it, which maybe sounds like not very much time, but in the soap world that’s a lot of dialogue and a lot of time. This time, I didn’t really feel any of that. It felt really natural and really comfortable finding the voice of the character.” He acknowledged that production had moved faster over the years, and he had certainly adapted to it.

Moreover, he also addressed how the show has kept the door open for his return in the future. He remains hopeful that they can still mutually figure out a way to make things work in their favor for a return in the future.

Jonathan Jackson Reveals Reason Behind Latest 'General Hospital' Exit

“But if they’re saying the door is still open, then that’s amazing. The door is always open from my perspective, too, so we’ll have to see how it goes logistically and see if there’s a way to adjust and pivot certain realities, but I would hope that that would be able to happen,” he added.

His latest comments come in light of executive producer Frank Valentini sharing his kind words on his exit in a recent statement. He wrote, “We were so glad Jonathan was able to reprise the role of Lucky, even if it was for a limited time.  We wish him nothing but the best, and the door is always open for Jonathan to return.”
