Family Reunion Turns Emotional—Todd and Savannah Reveal Struggles After Prison

After serving more than two years behind bars, Todd and Julie Chrisley are finally embracing life after lockup—and rediscovering what it means to be a family again. Three months after being pardoned by former President Donald Trump, the Chrisley Knows Best stars opened up about their new beginning and the lessons they’ve learned from their time away.

In an emotional interview with E! News, Todd admitted that returning home was both comforting and challenging. “Coming home to your people, to your surroundings, is always a comforting thing,” he shared.

“But there is that adjustment period because you went from your whole life doing things one way to the last 28 months having to do someone else’s way.” The 56-year-old reality star said he now views life differently—less focused on perfection and more grateful for peace and family.

His daughter Savannah Chrisley, who fought tirelessly for her parents’ release, agreed that the adjustment hasn’t been easy. “

You’re stepping back into a world where everyone else has been living life in a different way,” she said. “As grateful as we are, it’s a big adjustment period to have everyone thrown back in it.” Still, she added, “Everyone’s just in shock—but in the best possible way.”

Todd described his first days at home as “a blessing.” He said the simple joys of sleeping beside his wife, hearing his children’s voices down the hall, and tucking daughter Chloe into bed at night were the moments he had longed for most. “Knowing that my family was all under one roof again was everything I prayed for,” he said.

The couple’s return marks a dramatic new chapter for the Chrisleys, whose fall from fame was one of reality TV’s biggest scandals.

Convicted in 2022 of tax evasion and bank fraud, Todd was sentenced to 12 years in prison and Julie to seven. Their family was torn apart as daughter Savannah took custody of her younger siblings, Grayson and Chloe, while publicly advocating for justice.

From behind bars, Todd spoke out about harsh prison conditions—including expired food and mold—while Julie struggled with isolation. Their case later gained national attention, culminating in a presidential pardon in May 2025, which Savannah described as “the answer to countless prayers.”

Now, the Chrisleys are documenting their second act in a new reality series titled The Chrisleys: Back to Reality, premiering Sept. 1 on Lifetime. Todd says this next phase will focus on rebuilding trust, family unity, and faith.

“I have a much clearer perception of where I want my life to go,” he reflected. “I’m not as easily agitated, and I don’t care about things that don’t matter anymore. I’ve found peace within myself.”

For Todd and Julie, freedom is no longer about fame—it’s about second chances, forgiveness, and starting over together. “We’ve changed,” Todd said. “And if we didn’t change after everything we’ve been through, it would have all been wasted.”
