Shocking secret was revealed in the chess set Stefano gave to Marlena Days of Our Lives Spoilers

MARLENA EVANS DECLINED THE CHESS SET AND THE GAME CONTINUES

TL;DR: Stefano DiMera left Marlena Evans a chess set in his will on Days of Our Lives, called her his Queen of the Night, framed her as his worthy adversary, and watched her go pale and walk out. The chess set is not a gift. It is his next move. Salem has no idea Stefano is still playing from the afterlife.

Let Us Set the Scene

Stefano DiMera was buried months ago. His will was read on Friday on Days of Our Lives. The codicil dropped like a grenade, Gabi Hernandez staked her widow claim, Lexie Carver walked back into Salem like a ghost, and somewhere in the middle of all of it, Marlena Evans was named in a paragraph of Stefano’s own handwriting.

He left her a chess set. Bequeathed to Marlena and her late husband John, framed as Stefano’s worthy adversaries. He called her his Queen of the Night.

She went pale. She declined the gift. She walked out without saying a word. Anyone who has watched Stefano operate for thirty years knows what happened. He did not give her a chess set. He put her back on the board.

Did Stefano DiMera plant the chess set so he could keep playing Marlena Evans from the afterlife, and what does he have hidden inside it? Send your wildest theories to [email protected] and we just might publish them!

The Chess Set Is His Whole Identity in One Prop

For thirty years, Stefano played chess like other people breathe. He kept a board in every house. When he had the upper hand in real life, he mirrored his moves on the pieces. He referred to the people he used as pawns. He taught Andre, EJ DiMera, Chad DiMera, and Theo Carver to play. The board was how he organized his world.

The Queen on that board was never abstract. The Queen was Marlena Evans. He wrote it in letters. He called her his Queen of the Night for forty years. When Stefano drafted his will, he chose the one item he knew would say everything to her without saying a word.

Leaving her the chess set is a confession of strategy. It says, in language only she recognizes, this game was always about you and it is not over.

Queen of the Night Is Not a Compliment

Queen of the Night carries a very specific history Marlena has never recovered from.

In the 90s, Stefano rented the apartment next door to her, drugged her wine, cut a hidden passage through her armoire, and visited her at night in a phantom’s mask, calling her his Queen of the Night and scrambling her psyche so completely that she became an open vessel for the devil’s possession.

In July 2025, Marlena told Kayla Brady she was having Queen of the Night dreams again, and that they were making her vulnerable to evil. The show planted that seed nine months ago. The chess set is the show watering it.

What Is Actually Inside That Box

Stefano hid things in objects for forty years. He put microchips in jewelry. He hid a codicil inside a music box. He literally implanted a device in Marlena’s skull once that made her susceptible to him. The man’s playbook is about objects that look harmless and turn out to be loaded.

The chess set is loaded.

Inside one of those pieces is something. A microchip with audio of his voice. A coded letter. A device that triggers the moment Marlena Evans touched the board. A hidden codicil that names her as guardian of something Stefano did not announce in front of his children. The candle that blew itself out at his memorial in February was foreshadowing. The chess set is the deliverable.

She declined the gift. It does not matter. The whole point of leaving it to a woman who would refuse it is to make sure his children, his grandchildren, or one of the people in that room with a vested interest ends up holding the board.

Wouldn’t it be interesting if one of those children happened to be borne of Stefano and Marlena, without her knowledge? Stranger things have happened.

The Queen of the Night is back on the board. The King who put her there is still moving.
