The reality show stars — who were convicted of bank fraud and tax evasion in 2022 — opened up about their time behind bars and their May 28 release in an interview for an ABC News Studios special, which premiered June 29 on Hulu and Disney+ and will air June 30 on GMA.

“I was a little nervous,” Julie, 52, said about her reunion with Todd during the interview. “Just because, you know, you think, ‘Oh my gosh, I’ve been away this long.’ But then, when I saw him, it was as if no time had passed.”

Todd, 56, said that the notion of reuniting felt “weird,” because he never truly felt as though he and Julie were apart.

“And you know for me, it’s just weird, because she was never away from me,” he explained. “Even the whole time we were apart. She was with me every second, every breath that I took.”

“I mean, when I saw her, I was grateful to wrap my arms around her, but it was just more like, ‘I’m home,’ ” he recalled of their reunion after President Donald Trump issued both Todd and Julie full pardons on May 27, relieving them of the remaining time on their sentences.

Julie went on to say that their initial reunion — which was filmed in front of a camera crew — entailed “laughter and tears.” However, Todd said that they shared some of their biggest emotions once they were alone.

“A lot of that came after the cameras were not on,” he said.

As for the first “normal thing” the family did after Todd and Julie were back home? “I think us having dinner. Sitting down and having dinner,” Todd said. “And I think being together again. You know, we get to start over.”

Todd then described sleeping in his own bed again as “heaven,” and the pair agreed that getting to shower without shower shoes was a thrill.

“It was almost like your first sexual encounter. That good,” Todd joked.

The couple also shared that one of the most emotional parts of their release was reuniting with their 12-year-old daughter, Chloe.

“You know, even though we had gotten to see each other [during visitations], it’s not the same as when you’re home,” Julie said with tears in her eyes.

“On our way home, she was literally watching on her phone — she was tracking where we were — to know how close I was. So I think it was just — it was a special moment,” she continued.

She also revealed that the couple will be “relaunching” their podcast, Chrisley Confessions, which went on hiatus during their incarceration.

“I am so excited for that … and for them to have a place to share their story and be truly authentically themselves after the past two and a half years,” Savannah said in the episode.

During a May 30 press conference, Todd additionally said that he and his wife are filming a Lifetime reality series.

The pair was indicted in August 2019 and later convicted and sentenced to a combined 19 years in prison in November 2022, though their sentences were reduced by around two years each in September 2023.
