Paula Cwikly was fired, and Ryan Quan became the lead writer for DOOL. Days of our lives
Ryan Quan, who has deep history of Days of Our Lives, and had spent nearly 20 years with the soap, is apparently on his way back to steer the ship in Salem as co-head writer alongside Jeanne Marie Ford.

According to a report on Tuesday from Daytime Confidential and the outlets multiple sources, Quan would be exiting the writing team of General Hospital where he has been a breakdown writer since 2025 to rejoin DAYS.
The report also indicated that the co-head writer position became available due to current co-head writer, Paula Cwikly deciding she wanted to retire. Sources have also confirmed to Michael Fairman TV that the report is accurate.
Quan was last part of the one-two punch at DAYS during Ron Carlivati’s tenure with the soap.
Carlivati was the series head writer for 7 years from 2017-2024 and Quan was the story consultant. During his last time with the writing team, Quan won four WGA Awards
Ryan began his daytime career as a writers’ assistant at Passions from 1999-2005.
He then joined Days of our Lives in 2007 where he worked his way up the ranks as a dialogue writer, breakdown writer, and a brief run as the show’s co-head writer with Dena Higley.
If this report proves to be true, General Hospital would be be losing a great addition to their team, as viewers have often seen Quan’s name in the opening credits of some excellent recent episodes.
