Daytime Mourns a Trailblazing Legend: My heart goes out to her children
Over the weekend, news came that rocked the entertainment industry… Legendary actress Diane Keaton passed away on Saturday, October 11, at the age of 79.
People received official confirmation from a spokesperson who stated, “There are no further details available at this time, and her family has asked for privacy in this moment of great sadness.”
Keaton, who was much-loved by many, had over 70 credits to her name and will always be remembered for films such as Annie Hall, Something’s Gotta Give, The Godfather, Father of the Bride, The First Wives Club and so many more.
Two of her last movies were Arthur’s Whiskey and Summer Camp and aside from the big screen, the actress also turned up on series like Curb Your Enthusiasm and The Young Pope.
Many took to social media to post tributes, including various daytime stars, like The Young and the Restless’ Michelle Stafford (Phyllis) who shared a lengthy post that began, “Steal from the best, they say. I tried. I don’t think I ever was a success to be honest. She was a genius.
That word is thrown around a lot these days. She was. A genius artist.” Having become a fan of Keaton’s at a young age, she posted two of her favorite scenes, one from Annie Hall and the other from The Godfather, then talked about meeting the actress while going out for a part.
“I mean, here I was sitting in front of my idol… acting… it was crazy. I told her I was nervous and loved her for so many years. She just looked at me and laughed. Like this was surprising. As if no one had ever said that to her.”
Stafford’s former castmate, Victoria Rowell (ex-Drucilla), posted a photo with Keaton and shared, “Rest is peace Diane Keaton — an honor to have crossed paths with such brilliance on the film Summer Camp — A true champion for children and adoption.”
General Hospital’s Finola Hughes (Anna) also shared a photo of the actress and stated, “What an absolute legend. Her style forever etched in our minds, her comic genius, her integrity to herself. A beautiful life well lived, my heart goes out to her children and family.”
While Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis) added, “As a woman who mercifully never married as I would have given up much of who I am if I had, I’d like to point to Diane Keaton’s self owned contribution to the world as a delightful, unique, renowned, brilliant artist and devoted mother.
Her remaining single may be in good part exactly why she was able to be all that. Just a thought.”
While The Bold and the Beautiful‘s Annika Noelle (Hope) and others honored the star by posting videos and photos to their Instagram stories, we want to take this moment to send Keaton’s family, friends and everyone who loved her our deepest condolences.
