Shemar Moore’s Return to The Young and the Restless Teased in Behind-the-Scenes Video: ‘I’m Home’
The 55-year-old actor returned to The Young and the Restless this week, reprising his role as Malcolm Winters 32 years after landing the breakout role in 1994. Christel Khalil, who plays his on-screen daughter, Lily Winters, took to Instagram to share the first behind-the-scenes look at Moore on set.
“Day 1 with Daddy O done!,” she wrote alongside a group photo of them with costars Bryton James (Devon Hamilton) and Sean Dominic (Nathan ‘Nate’ Hastings Jr.)
She also posted a video asking Moore how it feels to step back into Malcolm.
“I’m home, baby,” he declared, joking: “Blast from the past with too much motherf—ing dialogue. 124 pages.”
He then added, “Hold on, I do 8 pages in my day job, and I make more money,” referring to his latest gig on the 10-episode S.W.A.T. spinoff S.W.A.T. Exiles, which recently wrapped production on its debut season.
“Return of the Mack…Shemar MF’n Moore!” Khalil captioned it.
Fans also took to the comments to express their excitement to see Moore on daytime television again, with one writing: “Soooo excited to see Malcolm back!! Remember his first day on Y&R, many years ago!! Love the Winters family!! ❤️❤️
“This is the best news,” commented another.
This sneak peek of Moore’s return comes shortly after CBS announced that he would be appearing on the beloved soap for a multi-episode storyline this April. The network also revealed that Vivica A. Fox, who was last seen in Genoa City in 1995, is set to reprise her role as Dr. Stephanie Simmons.
According to CBS, Moore and Fox began taping scenes on Feb. 17, and their return will have “shocking and lasting implications for the residents of Genoa City.”
During Fox’s initial one-year stint on the series, Stephanie and Malcolm were romantically involved. However, the doctor’s demanding schedule ultimately led to their split before Stephanie left town.

Moore originally played the iconic Malcolm, who is a photographer and the half-brother of Neil Winters (the late Kristoff St. John), from 1994 to 2005.
While he went on to star on Criminal Minds and S.W.A.T. after his departure, he made a number of guest appearances on Y&R over the years — including in 2014, 2019 and most recently in 2023 for the show’s 50th anniversary celebration.

During the episode, where a portrait of Neil was unveiled as a tribute to the character and the actor, Malcolm looked at it and said, “There he is. Besides, y’all know me, when it came to the great Neil Winters, I show up. Whatever it takes.”
At that time, Malcolm was single, although it is unclear if he and Stephanie have since rekindled things ahead of their upcoming episodes.
The Young and the Restless, now in its 53rd season, airs weekdays at 12:30 p.m. EST on CBS and streams on Paramount+.
