Sister Wives’ Mykelti and Tony Caught in Terrifying Tornado During Cross-Country Move!

Mykelti Brown and her husband Tony Padron hit a harrowing roadblock during their cross-country move from Utah to North Carolina.

In an Oct. 5 episode of Sister Wives, the couple documented the unexpected moment they drove straight toward a tornado during their journey to North Carolina. In a confessional-style interview, Mykelti’s mom Christine Brown and her husband David Woolley, who were helping the couple with the move, describe the moments leading up to the severe weather.

“It’s our second day moving Mykelti cross country,” Christine says. “David stops at one point, looks at his phone on his weather app. There’s like these little purple spots all over the map, and purple means tornado.”

The scene then cuts to Mykelti and Tony driving in the car, during which they point out an ominous cloud starting to form above them.

“We just received a warning for a tornado,” Mykelti says, before panning over to the cloud. “That right there is the beginning of it. Look how it’s touching down.”

Tony then clarifies, “It’s not a tornado yet, but it could become a tornado.”

Back in the confessional clip with Christine and David, the couple recall watching the weather on their phones closely, before hearing warning sounds for the severe weather.

“We had the radio on and all of a sudden they had an alert going,” David says. “Alerts saying there would be strong hail storms coming. You know, seek shelter.”

Christine then remembers getting a troubling phone call from Mykelti and Tony while they were on the road.

“The phone rings, I answer it, and Mykelti’s like, ‘We’re in a tornado. We’re in a tornado,’” she says.

David says he had an immediate response to hearing the worrisome news: “I just said, ‘Drive right through it. Just keep on driving.’”

While Mykelti and Tony take David’s advice and continue on with their drive, the severe weather intensifies as chunks of hail begin to hit the couple’s car.

“Wind is coming on,” Tony says, before a loud thud can be heard against the vehicle. “Oh sh–. That was a big chunk of hail I think, that just hit our windshield.”

A frightened Mykelti asks, “What do we do?” and Tony insists, “We gotta keep going.”

The hail then continues to hit their car, and Mykelti discovers a crack in the windshield.

“Oh it dented the window, Tony. Get off [the highway]. It’s denting the windows. There’s broken glass,” she says in a panicked voice as the episode comes to a dramatic end.

Earlier in the episode, Mykelti and Tony reveal why they’re making the cross-country move, and they explain that it’s partly so Tony can focus on his chess career. Mykelti also noted that she wants to be “close to Maddie” — Christine’s former sister wife Janelle Brown’s daughter — so her kids can grow up around Maddie’s children.

Maddie and her husband Caleb Brush share four children together. They recently purchased a farm in North Carolina with Janelle where they plan on building their homes.

However, Christine notes later in the episode that she thinks the real motive behind Mykelti’s move is because she wants to get away from the family turmoil that stems from her dad, the Brown family patriarch Kody Brown, and the family’s once-plural marriage falling apart.
