Halloween in Salem is supposed to be filled with laughter, candy, and costumes — but this year, it spirals into chaos and heartbreak for Chad DiMera and his young son, Thomas. What begins as a childish prank turns into a tragedy that threatens to tear one of Salem’s most beloved families apart.
Chad DiMera (Billy Flynn), the brooding heir to the infamous DiMera legacy, has already suffered more than his share of loss. Losing his wife, Abigail, shattered his heart and left him to raise Thomas and Charlotte on his own.
Thomas, his bright and impulsive son, is Chad’s greatest joy — but also a reminder of how fragile happiness can be. When a Halloween prank goes terribly wrong, Chad’s world once again spins out of control.
The night begins in typical Salem fashion — festive chaos and hidden danger. Among the crowd is newcomer Cat Green (Annalynne McCord), a mysterious woman with a murky past who’s recently caught Chad’s attention.
But before anyone can enjoy the festivities, Cat is suddenly attacked by a knife-wielding stranger. Screams erupt, and chaos spreads through the streets.
Alex Kiriakis (Robert Scott Wilson) leaps to Cat’s rescue, pushing her out of harm’s way — only to become an unintended victim himself
. Just as he shields her, a massive pumpkin, rigged as part of a prank by Rachel Black and Thomas DiMera, hurtles through the air and slams into Alex with brutal force. The crowd gasps as Alex collapses, injured and unconscious.
The horrifying twist? The prank wasn’t meant to harm anyone. Rachel, driven by jealousy and resentment toward Cat, convinced Thomas to help her launch a pumpkin cannon — aiming to scare Cat, not seriously injure anyone. But in the chaos of the attack, their plan backfires disastrously.
When Chad learns that Thomas was involved, his anger and fear boil over. “You could have killed someone!” he yells, his voice shaking with both fury and heartbreak.
But Thomas, overwhelmed and jealous of his father’s growing bond with Cat, snaps back: “You only care about her, not me!” The words cut deep — and in a fit of emotion, Thomas runs off into the dark.
